Situated near Tampa Bay, Florida, Simon Bolyn is an award winning and published bird photographer. He supports conservation efforts in North America and donates the use of his photos and art to avian organizations and rehabilitation centers in order to help promote the protection of various species and their environment across the United States and Canada.
His has been regularly featured in Canadian Geographic, Canada’s premier publication by The Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Other international accolades include photography magazines and calendars, many wins and honorable mentions in international competitions as well as participating in juried art fairs and exhibitions. He has also proudly been asked to be a key note speaker for non-profit groups discussing his knowledge of photographic work and the technical and creative aspects behind it.
His ultimate goal in avian photography is to capture intimate portraits of birds with unique expressions that show their intelligence and hopefully an intensity that captures your attention. This is why he tries to study an individual over the course of at least a couple of months, as it is necessary to properly understand a creature’s traits, mannerisms and character before you can photograph it properly.
This long term process helps him to choose how best to present an individual species in his work, hoping that in turn it brings a much clearer appreciation for the environment we share.
